David Wilson Homes has reimagined one of the most iconic rooms in Buckingham Palace, The White Drawing Room – where the Queen is known to broadcast her Christmas speech into five modern interior design styles.

1. Scandi Style

Characterised by a focus on minimalism, functionality, and simplicity, whilst also embracing comfort and cosiness, Scandinavian interiors have been a constant feeling of cleanliness over the past few years, as well as focusing on using light and space to create sleek looks. Natural materials such as wood, leather, wicker, and hemp paired with an abundance of white and grey tones, open spaces, and lots of natural light would create a simple yet modern look for The White Drawing Room.

2. Botanical Bohemia

From leafy wallpaper to soft green accents and plant displays, botanical interiors embrace nature to bring the outdoors in from the outside. In our ever-connected world, taking a step back and being surrounded by flora and fauna in the home can be just the remedy we need. If the Queen was considering transforming The White Drawing Room into a green haven, she would have to research which plant species will work best for her space; some thrive in shady, cooler conditions whilst others prefer a sun trap.

3. Art Deco Indulgence

In recent years Art Deco interiors have made a big comeback. They are a symbol of glamour and sophistication that makes use of bold colours, velvety textures and geometric prints. Colours are striking and often contrasting with metallic and gold accents. The White Drawing Room would have to be paired with iconic decorative features with mirrored surfaces and moody artwork to bring the look.

4. Memphis Revival

Clashing colours, blocky shapes and loud patterns are the signature style of the Memphis movement. Founded by the late Ettore Sottsass in 1980, the style was developed to introduce a radical and playful approach to design – think kids’ indoor playground for adults. Memphis-inspired Venetian Terrazzo print, seen on the floor in this redesign, has made a big impression on design this year and can be incorporated into a variety of soft furnishings for a subtle nod to the kitsch trend.

5. Future Focus

It’s time to bring Buckingham Palace into the future so we’ve imagined what it could look like in years to come. Futuristic interior design embraces pure simplicity. With clean lines and white furnishings, it has an intergalactic appeal for people who are tired of abundance. Furniture pieces that combine advanced technology and recycled materials with simple interior design concepts create functional and clutter-free homes. Could this be what all of our homes will eventually look like?
