Carmarthenshire Councillors are calling on Plaid Cymru to remove the whip from a County Councillor after he made his profanity-laden outburst during a Council meeting towards Opposition Councillors.

Newly re-elected Councillor Dorian Phillips has found himself in hot water after an incident during a Council training session, where he made a profanity-laden outburst towards fellow Councillors to the horror those in attendance.

The incident occurred when the Council’s Monitoring Officer was informing Councillors that approximately 95% of all Council decisions were taken by the Plaid Cymru cabinet, rather than all 75 Councillors, to which Cllr Dorian Phillips replied “fucking, swallow that you fuckers”, followed by laughing.

The remarks sparked an instant reaction with newly elected Labour Councillor Shelly Godfrey-Coles requesting that the Councillor apologise for his aggressive language towards opposition Councillors. The incident via Zoom was recorded by the Council for training purposes.

Councillor Dorian Phillips, who has represented Llanboidy since 2012, has since been reported to the Public Service Ombudsman, as well as allegedly reporting himself to the Ombudsman.

Carmarthenshire Labour are calling on Plaid Cymru to suspend Councillor Phillips over the aggressive behaviour and demanding a full apology from Councillor Phillips.

Speaking after the incident, Opposition Leader Cllr Rob James stated “This is truly appalling behaviour from an elected Councillor and has really upset a number of Councillors in attendance.

“This aggressive language directed at opposition Councillors, including women, shows a complete lack of respect from the Plaid Cymru Councillor and flies in the face of the comments by the Council Leader of wanting to work with Opposition Councillors.

“There appears to a deep cultural issue within Plaid Cymru, with male politicians acting aggressively towards women. We are calling on Adam Price to condemn this behaviour and suspend him from the party pending investigation.”
