Jacob Ramsey was the best value Premier League goal scorer last season, new research has found.
The study by odds comparison site Odds Scanner analysed the yearly salary of the league’s top goal scorers in the 2021/22 season, to see which players had the cheapest ‘cost per goal’.
It found that Villa’s Jacob Ramsey took the top spot, with 6 Premier League goals to his name last season while on a wage of just £7,500 and £390,000 a year. This meant he had the cheapest cost per goal of any player with £65,000. Ramsey’s scoring abilities were rewarded with a new five-year contract at Villa in April of this year, taking his wages up to a huge £70,000 a week.
Southampton’s Armando Broja, on loan from Chelsea, came second. On a wage of just £8,500 a week, and a yearly salary of £442,000, Broja netted six goals, giving him the second cheapest per goal out of any player in the Premier League with £73,667. The 20-year-old’s talent did not go unnoticed this season, seeing interest from many teams come about from his efficient spell at the Saints.
Brentford’s Ivan Toney comes in third place with a yearly salary of £1,092,000 and a weekly wage of just £21,000. This when combined with his 12 goals that helped Brentford remain in the Premier League meant he had a cheap cost per goal of £91,000. Toney signed for Brentford in 2020 from Peterborough for a fee of £5 million.

With rumours spreading that the 20-year-old’s salary has already been quadrupled after the 2021/22 season, it’s clear the goal-scoring is there to show for it.
Coming in tenth place is Man City wonderkid Phil Foden, with the midfielder still officially sitting on a wage of £28,000 a week and £1,450,000 a year. Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson from Odds Scanner said: “What this data highlights is that there are many Premier League talents that desperately need a pay rise before other clubs come calling for their goal scoring prowess. It’s also interesting to see the variety of clubs in the top ten, with even some of the top clubs having players that deserve a better wage.”
