A popular mini-grant scheme run by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Trust is open once again for applications.

Last year, 10 local non-profit groups received Force for Nature mini-grants of up to £500 for projects with a positive environmental impact, including a community wildflower meadow and bug hotel in the village of Summerhill, biodiversity improvements at the Slash Pond Boardwalk in Broad Haven and a sensory garden at Ysgol Harri Tudur.

This year, the grant limit has been raised to £1,000 and as well as not-for-profit organisations such as charities, constituted voluntary groups, community councils, schools, sports clubs and associations, businesses that are able to demonstrate public benefit from their project are also invited to apply.

Funded projects must either deliver a positive conservation or climate change action, support biodiversity, or create new green spaces. Examples include wildflower meadow creation on small areas of common and public land, increasing pollinator habitats, tree planting, creating hedgerows, planting fruit trees and pond creation.

External Funding Manager Jessica Morgan said: “When the Force for Nature mini-grant scheme launched last year, we were overwhelmed by the level of passion and commitment shown by local people towards mitigating the challenges our National Park faces over coming years.

“Unfortunately, the enormous level of interest in the scheme meant that it was only possible to allocate funding to a third of those who applied.

“With the clock now ticking towards this year’s deadline, we encourage businesses and not-for-profit groups to get in touch with their project proposals.”

An application form and further eligibility guidelines are available at https://pembrokeshirecoasttrust.wales/force-for-nature-grants/.

The deadline for completed applications is midnight on Friday 21 June 2022.
