London, UK – June 13, 2022. – Guinness World Records, the global authority on record breaking is delighted to announce that Gareth Murphy, from Caernarfon, Wales has broken the record for the most pubs visited in 24 hours (individual).

The 29-year-old IT worker drank at 56 different pubs in Cardiff city centre breaking the previous pub crawl record of 51 set by Englishman Matt Ellis in 2021.

With over with over 100 drinking establishments all within 10/15 minutes’ walk, Cardiff proved the perfect city for the attempt. Gareth spent weeks meticulously planning the best route and ensuring he fulfilled the guidelines including ensuring he had an accurate GPS tracker.

Gareth stuck to soft drinks in throughout the record attempt, except for a tiny 125ml of his favorite tipple Guinness in just one pub. The most challenging part of the attempt for Gareth was a bloated belly not helped by his self-confessed inability to burp! Toilet breaks too were a hindrance, which as the hours drew on became increasingly frequent.

Guinness World Records Editor in Chief, Craig Glenday said “Congratulations to Gareth on what really should be called a pub sprint or even marathon – the word ‘crawl’ hardly does justice to such a challenging endurance record! It really is a test of fitness, mapping, scheduling… and bladder management. Welcome – at last! – to the Guinness World Records family, Gareth! Cheers!”

Commenting on his record Gareth said “It feels great to achieve something like this. It made all the hard work and preparation worth it. I’ve got the certificate up on a shelf already, in its pride and place.”

Over the 24 hour period in the 56 pubs Gareth drank:

  • 4,915 ml (8.6 pints) of orange juice
  • 2,845 ml (5 pints) of apple juice
  • 1,023 ml (1.8 pints) of beer
  • 500 ml (0.8 pints) of lemonade
  • 284 ml (0.5 pints) of Diet Pepsi®
  • 250 ml (0.4 pints) of Tango®
  • 189 ml (0.33 pints) of blackcurrant cordial
  • 125 ml (0.2 pints) of Coca-Cola®
  • 125 ml (0.2 pints) of Guinness®
  • 125 ml (0.2 pints) of cranberry juice
