ITV Cymru Wales, in partnership with S4C, is once again looking for two enthusiastic people who want to develop a career in Welsh language journalism.

The innovative training scheme, which is a partnership between S4C and ITV, is running for the fifth time this year and is part of S4C’s commitment to give those who are under-represented in the sector the opportunity to work in the field.

The two successful candidates will follow a 12-month training programme, gaining experiences within the news and current affairs teams at ITV Cymru Wales. They will also be creating short-form current affairs content for Hansh Dim Sbin across social media platforms and for S4C’s digital news services.

Branwen Thomas, ITV Cymru Wales’ Editor of Welsh Language Programmes said:

“We are so proud of the partnership with S4C to make this traineeship a reality once again this year, and the further commitment to develop a new generation of journalists through the medium of Welsh.”

“This is an exciting opportunity to reach new audiences too for Hansh Dim Sbin and for the trainees to develop digital skills that will be key to any future career in journalism.”

Indigo Jones and Eyitemi Smith were the successful candidates who won their place on the training scheme last year, and both have gained invaluable experience working in the field and developing their skills.

Indigo Jones said:

“This time last year, I was so hesitant applying, thinking to myself that there is no way I would get a job in the Welsh media. I thought because I didn’t sound like everyone you see on S4C, and that my Welsh wasn’t as polished, that I would just be wasting my time.

But, I’m so glad that I took the plunge and applied for the traineeship! Because now I’ve had the opportunity to be the representation that I needed growing up with Welsh language media.

If you are interested in social media and journalism, take my advice, and take the plunge to apply, I’m so thankful I did.”

Eyitemi Smith added:

“I’ve had so many experiences since being on the traineeship.  I’ve had the opportunity to work on stories that are important to me, such as matters to do with Climate Change – as well as creating digital content on stories and issues that might not get covered on the mainstream news cycle.

I’ve also had many experiences outside of the traineeship since joining such as going on the Radio, as well as leading panel discussions.”

Rhodri ap Dyfrig, S4C’s Online Content Commissioner, said:

“We are delighted to be able to extend this scheme again this year after the success of recent years.

“Providing a platform for contemporary journalism and the views of young people on what’s happening in the world around them is an important addition to Hansh, and a place to develop completely up-to-date techniques for discussing issues in Wales and the world.”

This is a special opportunity for someone who has a keen interest in news and current affairs and wants to pursue a further career as a Journalist.

The deadline is June 27 and the training plan is a 12-month contract: https://itvjobs.referrals.selectminds.com/jobs/digital-journalist-1835?_ga=2.179213219.669433976.1654678669-1758674331.1652093928 .
