Action for Children’s therapeutic residential children’s home in Denbighshire, Tan y Bryn, has scooped the prestigious service of the year award at the charity’s annual awards ceremony in London hosted by TV presenter, Olivia Cox.

The charity noted: The team go above and beyond to ensure all families have equal opportunities to make positive change. It’s a shining example of collaboration with the team working together to make sure the service is safe, effective, innovative, funded and promoted.

Caroline Morris, the service’s manager, who was also commended for employee excellence at the ceremony, said: ‘To say I’m proud would be an understatement…the home is filled with love and laughter and that’s what makes us who we are.’

She added: ‘We have five young people and 10 staff so we are quite a small staff team, and everybody goes above and beyond and shows a lot of love because it’s like a second family.’

Tan y Bryn welcomes children and young people aged 9 to 18 years. This can be for several months or years, depending on what the child needs. Working with local authorities across North Wales and in the bordering counties, the home is recognised for its innovative approach and excellent outcomes for children.

Brigitte Gater, national director for Wales, said: ‘What a brilliant year for Welsh services and staff. Winning service of the year out of over 450 UK services is a great feat and very well deserved. Tan y Bryn never stands still and achieves excellent outcomes time after time. The clincher though is it’s rooted in love and serves as an inspiration to all of us.’
