GLASTONBURY ROAD TRAFFIC COMMENT

According to the news this week queues on the road will continue to build in the lead up to Glastonbury. Car insurance expert at Confused.com Alex Kindred says:

“With thousands hitting Glastonbury this weekend, we can expect an increase of drivers on the road than in previous years due to the current train strikes across the UK. Last-minute changes to travel plans can be frustrating, so it’s important to be as prepared as you can if you’re designated driver – especially if you plan on drinking alcohol over the weekend.

“When Glastonbury festival was last on in 2019, Avon and Somerset police caught 185 motorists drink-driving over the month of June. Our research has also found that drink-driving arrests are typically higher during the summer months, with UK forces making up to 106 drink-driving arrests per day between June and August 2021, on average.

“For drivers who have been volunteered for Monday’s post-festival commute home, it’s important that you’re in a fit state to do so. You might not realise it, but alcohol can stay in the system for a long time after drinking, so make sure you’re preparing yourself for the drive home.  Always ensure you’re leaving enough time between drinking the night before and jumping behind the wheel the next morning. That means even if you feel pressured to leave the venue at a certain time or to get your friends back home.

“This applies to any occasion, not just festivals. If you’re drinking alcohol, don’t drive home. But if you do need to get behind the wheel, our morning-after calculator can help you work out your alcohol levels before you make your way home.”
