Eight reasons to make a holiday out of your trip to the
Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 (28 July to 8 August). 
Birmingham is the UK’s second largest city and therefore a worthy host to the Commonwealth Games.  Among many little known facts about this metropolitan hub is, as documented here by Birmingham City University, that it’s home to the most Michelin star restaurants in a city outside London. 
Read on for just a few highlights during a trip to Birmingham.
Pay a visit to Michelin star Simpsons Restaurant in the city centre, owned by ‘The Godfather of modern Birmingham food’, Andreas Antona.  Sample chef Luke Tipping’s impeccably sourced seasonal cooking with plenty on offer for plant based diets.
Take a hands-on, cookery class at Eureka Cookery School, taught by Michelin trained chefs and finishing with a communal sampling of your meal with wine and Champagne (from £195pp).
Escape the city for a day in the charming market town of Kenilworth just a few miles away. Dine at The Cross, a Michelin star pub and one of the UK Top 50 Gastropubs before a romp around the medieval Kenilworth Castle.
Stroll around the historical Birmingham Botanical Gardens which date back to 1829.  Five minutes from from the centre of the city, their Tropical and Subtropical Glasshouses attract botanical enthusiasts from all over the UK.
Visit the award winning, 26 acre Black Country Living Museum famous for being the filming location of Peaky Blinders but also home to a reenactment of the historical Black Country from reconstructed buildings to characters telling the real life stories.
Gorge on chocolate at Cadbury World where activities include exploring 2000 items of Cadbury memorabilia, meeting the Aztec Emperor Montezuma, who brought cocoa to Europe, seeing chocolate making in action and having a go at piping and tempering.
Seek out blue plaques of famous historical Birmingham residents including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, J. R. R. Tolkien and Neville Chamberlain and walk the streets frequented by recent local celebrities such as Lenny Henry, Julie Walters, Robbie Williams and the rock band Led Zeppelin.
