Holiday havoc: ‘Benidorm’ among top 3 ‘angriest’ TV shows

British sitcom ‘Benidorm’ has been named as the third ‘angriest’ TV show, according to a new study by Preply.

Taking into account some of the biggest shows from 2022, the team have studied scripts of varying genres to break down the shows that have the most angry words in them, spanning a duration of three hours. The percentage of negative vocabulary from each show was then worked out. 

Here are the top 5 most fiery shows… 

1. Sex Education – 374 (10.35%)
2. Euphoria – 346 (9.57%)
3. Benidorm – 339 (9.38%)
4. Derry Girls – 320 (8.85%)
5. Top Boy – 313 (8.66%)

‘Benidorm’ had the third-most angry words across all of the shows looked at, with 399 over three hours and 9.38% of the script we scoped out containing negativity. For people that have not seen the show, these numbers are to be expected, as the grimy hotels, rude staff and extremely sub-par entertainment cause a row a minute on-screen. 

Coming just above in second place is ‘Euphoria’, which scored a total of 346 overall. Across three hours, 9.57% of the words used in ‘Euphoria’ were dark or irate, which could be due to the nature of the show’s characters dealing with serious issues such as deep mental health problems and drug addictions. 

The award for  the ‘angriest’ show was given to Netflix’s ‘Sex Education’, which racked up a very impressive 374 aggrieved words across the three hours that we studied. As a series that is jam-packed with drama, arguments and coming-of-age chaos, this is not surprising. Throughout the three hours of the show that was broken down, 10.35% of the words were vexed. 

The team also broke down the data for the top 5 angriest words said on TV, as well as the most loving, most offensive and most common words heard on screen.
