PFEW to recognise England and Wales’s bravest of brave on 14 July

• 2022 Bravery Awards will honour 76 nominees from 39 police forces
• Prime Minister Boris Johnson: I would like to pay tribute to the Police Federation for once again arranging these awards and Police Mutual for supporting them

The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) will host the prestigious Police Bravery Awards on Thursday (14 July), to celebrate exemplary work done by police officers while saving lives and upholding the rule of law. The recipient of this year’s Inspiration in Policing Award will also be declared at the event.

This year’s ceremony will honour 76 police officers from 39 police forces across England and Wales nominated for the awards. Their stories of bravery can be found here.

The event will be hosted by TV’s Mark Durden-Smith. The presentations can be watched live from 9:30 pm via our live stream link where the eight regional winners and an overall winner will be declared. 

Prime Minister Boris Johnson while congratulating the nominated police officers and recognising their acts of bravery said: “Since the time of Robert Peel, the public has relied on the bravery of a band of dedicated citizens to keep the peace and keep the rest of us safe from those who would do us harm.

“To my mind, we in Britain are lucky to have the very finest men and women in our forces, and the willingness of police officers to run towards danger on every shift stands testament to that.

“These acts of bravery, honoured here today by your colleagues and the public, are outstanding and in the finest traditions of policing. I salute each and every one of the fantastic nominees at the awards. You are truly the best of the very best.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the Police Federation of England and Wales for once again arranging these awards and Police Mutual for supporting them.”

Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford said: “The police play a hugely important role in Wales and in our local communities across Wales – helping people to feel safe wherever they live and whoever they are.

“These awards show the skill, dedication and passion of officers, and the impact their commitment to policing and supporting their communities has on the people they work with every day. 

“Being a police officer is an extraordinary job, and the recipients of these awards have achieved extraordinary things”.

PFEW National Chair Steve Hartshorn said: “Every day police officers across England and Wales go through inconceivable lengths to protect the public. In the face of danger and adversity, they go above and beyond the call of duty to protect all of us. 

“Their acts of courage go further than any of us could expect. The bravery shown by them is truly outstanding. From putting their own lives at risk to save others, facing violent attackers and terrifying weapons, to rescuing people from perilous situations in fast-flowing water or stranded hundreds of feet in the air, they have faced danger head-on.

“They will tell you they don’t do it for recognition or praise, they do it because it’s their job.”
