To some, lunchtime is the best part of the workday, an opportunity to reset before tackling the remainder of the day. To do that, food is essential, but did you know that some areas of the UK offer more options than others?

To make office workers more aware of the food options available to them in their area, Small Business Prices has examined several factors before giving each city/town a score out of 100.

Cardiff placed eighth in the ranking, scoring 67 out of 100. Below is the full list of factors and the ranking that Cardiff achieved for each one which lead it to rank eighth place out of all 50 locations.

The ranking of cities for best office lunch is based on the premise that a great office lunch is cheap, tastes great, can be picked up or delivered, and caters to most dietary requirements.

With that in mind, for each city, Small Business Prices looked at the number of cheap eats offering lunch and their concentration per 10,000 residents. They also included avg rating of lunch-serving “cheap eats” and the variety of cuisines on offer. Finally, they looked at how common was the ability to pick up lunch or get it delivered, and how well-catered the affordable eateries in each city were to various dietary requirements.

Their index is based on 11 factors, each of which was assigned a maximum point score with a total of 100. Cities with the overall score closest to 100 are deemed the best for office lunch.

All the data on the number of restaurants, their rating, cuisine, price level, and friendliness towards special diets were taken from TripAdvisor. The cities were taken as UK’s 50 most populous according to TheGeographist.com.
