With temperatures expected to hit record highs of 40 degrees this week, it’s natural to want to try anything to keep your home cool throughout the day. However, leaving your home unlocked and windows left open could leave you with unwanted stress. Home insurance expert at Confused.com, Jessica Willock, comments:

“It’s likely that many will be trying to keep as cool as possible in their homes this week as temperatures could hit highs of 40 in some parts of the country. Many will be keeping windows and doors open especially as a lot of us are working from home.”

“If you’re popping out for a short time on your lunch break or it’s hot in your bedroom while you sleep, you might be tempted to keep your windows open to let some fresh air in. However, it’s important to stay vigilant from any summertime opportunists. If you’re heading out on a hot day, remember to lock up when leaving the house and keep valuables hidden away from plain sight. You might not realise, but by not doing so, you could be invalidating your home insurance.

“If you do fall victim to the summer thieves and you’re confused about what to do, you can use our guide for the best advice.”
