Commenting on the research, Lucy Sherliker, Head of Customer at Zuto Car Finance says:

“With the price of petrol skyrocketing in the last year, finding a car as fuel efficient as possible has never been more crucial in order to keep running costs down.

Be sure to consider a few other points when buying a new car such as:

The fuel efficiency of the car: Research has highlighted the importance of considering the fuel efficiency of your desired model prior to purchasing as it can have a huge impact in the monthly and yearly running costs. Opt for a car which has a higher MPG (miles per gallon). As a rule of thumb, the smaller and more efficient the car, the more miles you will get per gallon.

Repair costs: It is inevitable that you will need your car repaired at some point in its lifetime, whether this be to go to your main dealer for servicing to an independent garage, it is important to consider approximately how much it will cost to repair. You may find that particular brands of cars are most expensive to repair and maintain than others. If you’re considering a particular type of car, it might be worth enquiring about how much regular services and typical repairs will cost you.

Insurance costs: Insurance can differ significantly depending upon the make and model of car you choose so be sure to consider this when choosing your new car. It’s also essential to shop around for insurance as you are likely to save money in the long run when doing so.

Considering these costs will ensure that your money goes as far as possible when choosing your new car model and our interactive tool will make your decision easier than ever.”
