Over the past year searches for ‘upcoming video games’ have increased by +124%(1), indicating that the anticipation for new games is growing amongst gamers. However, looking back what have been the favourite games of Europeans?
To find out, Ebuyer used social listening data to compare the favourite video games of 26 countries in Europe.(2)

Overall Call of Duty: Black Ops II is the most popular video game across four different European countries. The first-person shooter game ranks first in the UK, Austria, Denmark, and Lithuania with an average of over 70% of people speaking highly of the game, including a lot of praise for the design of the map and the weapons.
The Call of Duty franchise brought forward another popular video game – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The game released in 2019 comes in first in Estonia, Ireland, and Portugal. In these countries, two-thirds of people speaking about the game simply can’t get enough of it!
Some classics like Pokémon Red make the list too. Being a Pokémon trainer and catching cute monsters makes it the most popular game in Italy and the Netherlands. Whilst initially released in 1985 and continuously updated, Super Mario Bros still to this date fascinates gaming aficionados in Greece.
