Access to health insurance is a hot topic right now. In a recent Forbes article, it was reported that the average health insurance cost for a single person who received health insurance benefits through their employer in 2020 was $7,040 a year, according to data from the Kaiser Family Foundation. The average cost of health insurance for a family in 2020 was more than double that number at $21,342 a year.

Zelros recently surveyed over 1000 people and found that 67.0% say they do currently have health insurance, and 33.0% do not currently have health insurance. And interestingly, those between 25-34 are the least likely to have coverage, with 41.5% saying they don’t.

Notable Discrepancies

  • Women are less likely to have health insurance than men.
  • 1 in 3 people do not have active health insurance policies.
  • 75 percent of men have an active health insurance policy.
  • Those in Gen Z have more health insurance coverage than Millennials

Christophe Bourguignat, CEO & co-founder of Insurance tech provider Zelros says, Technology and data should be working for us to improve coverage for everyone, not just allowing us to see who doesn’t have insurance. We can use artificial intelligence to make sure that if a person is lacking a particular policy, whether it be health, auto or home, that they get what they specifically need in their policies as their life situations change.”

Looking at the data closer shows, 60.9% of women surveyed said that they have health insurance and 39.1% surveyed that they do have health insurance. 75.4% of men have health insurance and 24.6% do not.

The majority of people across all age groups have health insurance. The age group with the lowest rate of health insurance is the 25-34 year-old age group, with 58.5% having health insurance and 41.5% not having health insurance. The age group with the highest rate of health insurance is the >54 year-old age group, with 74.5% having insurance and 25.5% not.

Founded in 2016 by Christophe Bourguignat and Damien Philippon, Zelros is using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technology to help insurers provide policyholders with the right coverage for their needs as they occur in real-time.

Would you like to speak with one of the founders on this data, or how AI and ML technology can revolutionize the insurance industry? I would be happy to schedule an interview with a member of the Zelros team!
