The 2022 Qatar world cup is only a few months away. As teams make their final tournament preparations, which British stars are building up the most hype online leading up to kick off on the 20th of November?

Experts have analysed social media sentiment data from the last 12 months using the social listening tool Linkfluence in order to determine which players in England are building up the most hype online about the upcoming FIFA 2022 World Cup.

The Potential starting 11 with the most hype online 

It’s not going to be a surprise that Man CIty’s Jack Grealish is among the most hyped players leading up to the 2022 world cup, having sold to City in 2021, breaking the British transfer record of £100 million.

Tammy Abraham who departed Chelsea in 2021 to take on a new challenge in Italy at Roma, is joint-favourite online with Cities midfielder.

Mason Mount (18%), Reece James (18%), and Raheem Sterling, who has recently taken one of the most surprising transfers in 2022 to Chelsea, make up the top five most hyped players online.

All 25 players found in this list are potential starting squad material for the 2022 Fifa World Cup, taking place this year in Qatar.

The European Nations Most Excited for Game Day

Comparing social media data across Europe, it’s clear that Portugal is the most excited country about the FIFA 2022 World Cup. With almost a quarter (25%) of Portuguese citizens speaking positively about the event, it’s clear that they are hyped to see Cristiano Ronaldo back playing for his nation. 

Belgium, who came in third place in the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Moscow, is found to have over a fifth of their fans (21%) ready for the action. With the likes of Romelu Lukaku likely to feature, Belgium sits alongside the top-rated teams going into the World Cup this year.

2018 winners France are joint-third with Spain (20%) and both teams are full of talent. The pair will be aiming to reach the latter stages of the competition, with France hoping to take home their third Jules Rimet trophy.

The English are equally excited about the tournament (13%) as the Welsh despite the Premier League being interrupted mid-season for the first time..
