Recast strengthens its rugby pack with Scarlets, Ulster and Glasgow Warriors joining platform

to boost access to fans and revenues

  • Scarlets and Ulster Rugby have launched their Recast Channels, with Glasgow Warriors launching their Channel this Saturday – expanding each club’s broadcast offering
  • The new Channels offer supporters an affordable platform to watch a mixture of content including behind-the-scenes action, game days, gym sessions, player training sessions, challenges, alongside exclusive interviews and live events
  • Each new Channel will in-turn allow the clubs to continue to invest in more exclusive and live content throughout the season, by generating vital new digital revenue

Recast – the revolutionary sports and entertainment subscription-free streaming platform – is expanding its rugby offering as three UK rugby clubs join the platform. Rugby Union channels from Scarlets, Ulster and Glasgow Warriors clubs will now stream a mixture of content, including live games on Recast to reach fans beyond traditional broadcasters.

The new channels offer Fans an affordable place to watch content, benefitting the Clubs in the process. Every time Fans watch content on Recast, the majority of revenue generated goes back to the club to invest in the production of new content, providing Fans with greater access, building deeper connections to the clubs.

With three major rugby clubs joining the platform, Recast continues to decentralise access to sports content, unlocking new revenue streams for rights holders from a global audience, not traditionally accessible via a broadcast-centered model.

For Ulster, the first event to be streamed live via Recast will be the upcoming Bank of Ireland pre-season fixture at home to Exeter Chiefs available to viewers outside the UK, which takes place this evening (2nd Sept). The away pre-season friendly against Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday 9 September will also be available live and exclusively via both of the club’s Recast Channels, with a revenue split agreed for the game using the platform’s unique smart contract functionality.

Scarlets’ pre-season matches will also be streamed live and exclusively via Scarlets’ new Recast Channel, with Scarlets v Bristol Bears on Friday (2nd Sept) and the Dragons the following Friday (9th Sept). As well as the live streams, Scarlets fans can watch new and exclusive behind the scenes content, interviews and press conferences throughout the season.

Andy Meikle, Founder and CEO of Recast, said: “We’re hugely excited to welcome three major clubs to the platform, marking our first step into Rugby Union. Having Scarlets, Ulster and Glasgow Warriors on board showcases each club’s intent to modernise the distribution of their content to rugby fans worldwide, whilst unlocking revenue via our unique microtransaction solution. The world of rugby presents huge potential for new digital revenue streams to be unleashed, benefitting fans, clubs and the sport. It’s an exciting time ahead of a huge season before next year’s World Cup.”

On Scarlets’ new Recast channel, Head of Marketing, James Askey says: “This is a hugely exciting venture for us. Our new Recast Channel will enable us to fund new types of content which will offer fans unparalleled access to life at Parc y Scarlets and also help us reach new audiences to grow the fanbase for the future.”

On Ulster’s channel, Stuart Martin, Head of Marketing and Communications follows:  “The launch of our Recast Channel is an exciting development in our club’s digital output. It shows our innovative approach in how we produce content and share it with our fans across the province and beyond. We’re delighted to be able to kickstart the channel by showing our pre-season friendly fixtures live on Recast and we hope that our supporters will enjoy the wide range of engaging content we have planned for the season ahead.”

Joining Recast is simple and free. Everything on Recast is priced in Cast Credits, with one Cast Credit valued at 1p and content being priced from just 1 Credit per minute. Fans can buy Credits as well as earn them in-platform by watching ads, sharing content, or inviting friends to join. Recast’s unique subscription-free microtransaction model keeps content accessible and affordable.
