Live your best life with the ultimate Feral Girl Summer Checklist – Women across the world are ditching unrealistic expectations and embracing their natural selves

Let’s take it back to the summer of 2019, where women across the globe were hopping on the social media viral trend of having a ‘Hot Girl Summer’. This included regular visits to the gym, being glammed up everyday and ensuring you’re freshly shaved to enjoy the summer heat.

Even the rapper Megan Thee Stallion made a whole song about it. It was an inspirational song for women to get up and out and express their wild side with their friends, not caring about what other people think.

This is a message that is important for women to stand by, especially from the queen of Hot Girl Summer herself, Megan Thee Stallion, however what comes with this trend is to constantly be worrying about the way women look and feel about themselves trying to maintain the look of ‘perfection’.

That’s why the latest Tik Tok trend, ‘Feral Girl Summer’, has been a huge hit for women, it’s the new and updated version of hot girl summer, yet this time it’s all about showcasing the ‘real’ side of women.

That means stepping away from feeling the need to pump iron in the gym daily and to just love the body you walk in, or not feeling like you have to wake up at 6am every morning to be productive, because a lie in until 10 or 11am never hurt anyone!

According to Vice, they had seen the trend had started being mentioned on Twitter back in 2019 as a response to all the hot girl summer posts, yet this year has seen the TikToksphere take over and post their versions of living a feral girl summer. Many have listed they will not be spending the summer drinking green juices or being organised, it will just be a fun summer just being completely relaxed and content as themself.

It’s a fun trend to start incorporating in your life this summer to ditch unrealistic beauty standards of trying to get a ‘bikini perfect body’ and to be your true authentic self, with no pressures. This is the season to be messy, chaotic and completely unapologetic of your choices in life, so go on nights out with your friends and be spontaneous and maybe get a tattoo, because that’s what feral girls do!

Lovima, the oral contraceptive pill company, wanted to create an important feral girl summer checklist so you can make sure you’re doing this summer right. So, take note and get ready to chill and be the most real you…

  1. Ditch the crazy workout plans

Seen a crazy intense seven-day workout plan on Instagram recently? Did it promise you a six pack within two days? Ditch it and don’t bother. You do not need to be doing any crazy workouts for this feral girl summer, this time it’s all about letting the pressure-free and chill vibe come into full effect, there are no unreal body expectations here. This is the time to not feel the need to be doing a wild cardio sesh every day and instead spend the time doing spontaneous activities with your friends or pop your favourite film on and just have a movie day.

  1. Let the body hair grow

One thing that stresses many women out during summer is making sure their legs are silky smooth so they’re able to finally get their legs out in their new shorts. This means having to keep tabs on the prickly legs most evenings with a razor ready to eliminate any hairs that start coming through. Yet for this summer, the feral girl lets the hair grow and is not bothered by their natural hair showing, give the razor or painful wax a break and let it grow. Even the Stylist found 83% of women believe there’s too much pressure on women to remove their hair and in 2016 there was a 5% drop in the sale of hair removal products, so clearly many were already on the feral girl summer trend six years ago.

  1. Don’t brush your hair

Waking up with matted or frizzy hair and letting it be is what we call perfection. There’s no need to keep trying to tame your hair with a hairbrush or drenching it with a multitude of hair products to try and recreate The Kardashians long and glossy hair. Feral girls do not care, let it go wild and embrace whatever style your hair chooses and before you know it, all of your friends will be trying to copy your natural hair style!

  1. Stop the 20 step skin-care routine

Instagram is a great place to find out what products our favourite celebs are using to give them glowy and dewy skin, a lot of the time it shows them using multiple products in a never-ending skin care regime. For a feral girl they don’t have the time or money to spend on a long list of expensive cleansers and spend three hours in a bathroom trying to get a natural glow. Instead, they splash a quick bit of water on their face and head straight out of that door to go on a wild night out with their friends, and don’t even bother to take their makeup off when they get home. Smudged makeup is the look for a feral girl summer.

  1. The more unmatched your outfit is, the better

Social media tends to be filled with the enthusiastic gym bunnies who never leave the house without having a cute matching gym set on that always makes an insta worthy picture. Although they look great, it just does not represent an authentic feral girl, they don’t care whether their clothes are matching or not, the more different their outfit is the better. This means wearing a pair of socks with different patterns and colours, or a wrinkly t-shirt she grabbed quickly off her messy bedroom floor, the feral girl summer is all about not caring about what she wears and having fun off of social media and living in the real world. So wear whatever provides you the most comfort and go strut your stuff!
