Why gun laws can only partially solve gun violence

The United States ranked #1 for Countries with Highest Gun Ownership by Civilians. United States citizens own 120.5 guns for every 100 people, according to the World Population Review. The Falkland Islands came in a distant second at 62.1 guns for every 100 people.

The United States, with less than five percent of the world’s population, has 46% of the world’s civilian-owned guns.

Due to the politically charged nature of guns in the United States, gun laws often fail to garner enough support to pass. Additionally, this data shows that even if we had sensible gun laws, citizens in the US have guns, and a lot of them. That means, there will still be incidents of gun violence even if gun laws are passed to limit the sheer number of gun deaths and incidents in the country.

This means we need to come up with other ways to reduce gun violence. Companies like Iterate.ai have developed technology to stop gun violence in stores, businesses and schools with their Threat Awareness technology.

The tech uses existing security cameras to identify and alert authorised personnel of any visible or hidden weapons like guns or knives nearly instantaneously and with extremely high accuracy. Their technology is already integrated in over 3,500 locations globally which include private sector businesses, organisations and schools, and because they are implemented at a commercial level, Iterate is able to keep their Threat Awareness solutions for schools extremely affordable.

Iterate.ai, founded in 2013 by Brian Sathianathan and Jon Nordmark, wants to help protect students and is making their technology affordable to any school that wants it.

Here is a recent TV segment discussing Iterate’s technology.
