Caerau Ely 3 V Mumbles Rangers 4
Rangers sit proudly in second position in the Ardal Southern SW league after 6 games played.
An impressive start from the new league entrants especially when you consider that their 13 points have been accumulated on their travels.
Rangers latest 4-3 win at Caerau Ely was not an easy affair as the youthful looking home side gave their total commitment to try and topple the Seniors from Mumbles.
However it was Rangers in form front runner Elliot Smith who scored a fine individual goal by taking on the home defence and powering his angled cross shot into the bottom corner of the Caerau Ely net. 0–1 after 24 minutes.
The home side responded well and were pushing Rangers onto the back foot and they were having to defend more and more.
As the half was drawing to a close the home side got a deserved equaliser when Lathan Garrett scored 1-1.
All to play for in the second half for both sides.
It didn’t take long for Mumbles Rangers to re-take the lead when Elliot Smith picked up the loose ball and drove at the Caerau Ely defence and unleashed a powerful shot that burst into the back of the Caerau Ely net. 1-2
As Mumbles Rangers celebrations had just come to an end and Caerau Ely re- started again, the ball broke to Rangers Declan Banfield who from just inside the Caerau Ely half lofted the ball high up into the sky towards the Caerau Ely goal. The home goalkeeper was stranded off his goal line and could only turn around and watch the ball take one high bounce into his goal net.
1-3.
Mumbles Rangers sensed the win was with their grasp but Caerau Ely responded within minutes and Calum Bateman pulled a goal back 2-3.
Again five minutes later Caerau Ely were awarded a penalty.
The spot kick was saved by Rangers goalkeeper Sam Goodwin a crucial moment in this game.
Mumbles Rangers rocked by the quick responses of the home team pushed forward themselves and it was hardworking forward Elliot Smith who won his side a corner. From the resulting corner the home defence couldn’t clear and Rangers defender Craig Spring scored from close range. 2-4
Was that the end of the home team’s resistance? The answer was no as Caerau pushed forward again and were rewarded with their second penalty of the game.
Rangers Craig Spring was shown his second yellow card and subsequently a red.
Calum Bateman scored the penalty to make it 3-4.
Time was running out for Caerau Ely against ten men Rangers.
Rangers received their second red card two minutes from the full time whistle when their Manager Kurtis March was shown a straight red for his protestations.
Rangers clung onto the win and cleared any further attacks from the home side.
