The Thomas family of Llanwrda have raised a magnificent £25,498 for the Intensive Care Unit at Glangwili Hospital in memory of a much-loved husband and father.
Sue Thomas and family raised the money over the last two years as a thank you for the care received by her husband Meirion, who sadly passed away from sepsis at the age of 57.
Sue and her sons, Chris, Aled and Sion, completed the Welsh Three Peaks with friends; the three sons did a sponsored Movember and there were donations in memory of Meiron from the local community, family and friends. There was also match funding of £10,540 from Barclays.
Sue, 54, a bank cashier and florist, who lives on the family farm, said: “Meirion was taken to Glangwili Hospital, to ICU, where he received the most wonderful care anyone could have wished for.
“We wanted to raise money for the Intensive Care Unit to say thank you for everything they did. We will always be truly grateful for the care he received.
“Meirion was always so proud of his family and he would be thrilled that such a fantastic amount of money has been raised for the intensive care unit. As a family, we want to say thank you for the amazing support of the local community and, also, thanks to Barclays for the match funding.”
The money was donated to Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board.
ICU Senior Sister Tammy Bowen said: “Thanks ever so much to the Thomas family for their generous and kind donation. This money raised will be donated towards an ICU garden, which will greatly benefit patients and create a safe outdoors area.”
