90s country singer Shania Twain is the most popular celebrity costume of 2022, with a 408% increase in searches for how to dress up like her in the run up to Halloween. After joining Harry Styles for his headline set at Coachella music festival, Shania Twain has had a resurgence in popularity and some of her most iconic looks including a head-to-toe leopard print outfit from her hit song “That Don’t Impress Me Much”.
Fellow singer The Weeknd is the second most popular celebrity Halloween costume this year, with a 222% increase in searches for ideas of how to become the Canadian singer. The most popular look is the red suit and black shirt combination worn in his hit song “Blinding By The Lights”.
Famous con artist Anna Delvey is the third most searched for costume this year, the number of people Googling costume ideas for her has increase by 191%. Infamous for posing as a wealthy German heiress and conning a number of people out of money, the incredible story of her crimes was made into a Netflix TV show this year.
Interestingly, after a TV show being made about him and Pamela Anderson, Tommy Lee is also one of the most popular celebrity costumes this year. Reality TV stars Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian have also made the top 20 list of Halloween costumes, the two famously wed this year and are often seen out and about in matching ‘rock-style’ outfits.
A number of musicians make the list, including Avril Lavigne, Dolly Parton, Lady Gaga, Drake and Lizzo.

Most notably, Prince Daemon (played by Matt Smith) has standout elements of his outfit, including the dragon-inspired headpiece and accentuated shoulder plates. Also, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen’s coronation dress is one of many outfits of the show that had fans captivated – the blend of a gold cape and ruby gold dress with OTT jewellery is guaranteed to be Halloween showstopper.
Costumes based on the film Promising Young Woman are the second most popular, based on increase of Google searches, with the most notable outfit being when the main character dresses up as a nurse stripper with rainbow hair to wreak her revenge. Searches are up 823% in the run up to Halloween.
Hocus Pocus costumes are next of the trending list of Halloween costumes, which is likely due to the release of the sequel to the 90s film. The key characters are three witches, the Sanderson sisters, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy and searches are up 817%.
Two Marvel franchises feature in the top 15, She Hulk and Wandavision, alongside Batman and Mandalorian from the Star Wars franchise.
