Analysing a comprehensive list of popular card games, board games, online, and video games, online entertainment experts at Slotbox.com have carried out a new study, revealing the top 10 games that Brits just can’t seem to win without the help of the internet.
Using Google Search data, the study paired the name of each game with the term âhow to winâ in a bid to find out which winning tactics are most searched for by frustrated players.

With over 605 million active players, itâs no surprise to see Chess top the list as the game the UK finds the most frustrating, with players googling ‘how to win’ the most. Known as one of the most difficult games to master, chess is all about strategy and technique. Annually, on average, 64,400 internet users from the UK search âHow to win chessâ, suggesting players really donât want to lose.
With Christmas is coming up, families will no doubt be dusting off their Monopoly boards, which lands in second place. âHow to win Monopolyâ receives a staggering 56,400 average annual searches from the UK, as players are keen to take home the most properties on the board.
Despite being a solo game, solitaire comes in third place, with 19,200 average annual searches, suggesting Brits donât want to lose this game â even against themselves.
Fortnite is fourth with 18,000 UK searches and is the only video game to make the top 20. In comparison to games like FIFA, Call of Duty, and War Zone, which all had low search volumes, it seems Fortnite is definitely bringing out playersâ competitive sides.
âHow to win Pokerâ is next on the list, with 13,200 annual UK searches, with Blackjack following closely behind with 10,560. With these games often played for money, itâs no surprise Brits are keen to find out how to win against their opponents.
Popular online and mobile game, Wordle, stormed the world back in October 2021, and now has over 3 million active players world-wide. With 10,080 searches in the last 12 months, it seems players are trying to crack the strategy to winning the daily game.
A number of family games also appear in the top 20, including Uno, Jenga, and Cluedo, alongside the worldâs second most popular mobile game, Candy Crush, with over 255 million users in 2021 and 5,800 âhow to winâ searches annually.Â
