The Marathon will take place on Sunday 16th April 2023.

The popular race is a firm favourite in the Welsh running calendar and is a perfect opportunity to raise funds for your local NHS charity. It boasts one of the flattest marathon courses in the UK: over 70% of all finishers have claimed a personal best on a route that offers iconic landmarks, like the city’s Transporter Bridge and the stunning scenery of the Gwent Levels – with its coastal wildlife and picturesque medieval villages.

There is no entry fee for participants, only a commitment to raise a minimum of £350 for the charity. Participants can choose to fundraise for a specific ward, service or department.

Each entrant will receive a free water bottle and charity t-shirt to wear on race day as well as a medal and certificate on completion.

Lydia Hayward recently took part in a marathon to raise funds for the charity. Lydia said: “I recently completed my first ever marathon at Long Course Weekend for Hywel Dda Health Charities, raising money for Older Adults Mental Health Services. It was an amazing experience and I feel such a sense of achievement.

“It has always been something I have wanted to do, but never felt ready. The truth is, you just need the motivation, and doing this for such a great cause, with other work colleagues, was my motivation. If you’re thinking of taking part in your first marathon then go for it, you won’t regret it.”
