Ardal South League Cup Mumbles Rangers 3 – Penydarren Seniors 5
Mumbles Rangers bow out of this seasonâs Ardal South League Cup in a free scoring contest.
Thereâs an expression â as wide open as a barn doorâ and at times both teams could lay claim to this.
Rangers were particularly guilty as they got off to a very lethargic start whilst the visitors were lively from the off.
Penydarren got their reward when George Kabza scored after four minutes and eleven minutes later striker Joshua Brogden found himself in acres of space and slotted the ball into the Rangers net 0-2
Mumbles Rangers flyer Taylor Smith was causing problems for the Penydarren defence and was doing his level best to get his team into this cup game.
Rangers managed to pull a goal back when they were awarded a penalty for a trip in the box. Rangers Captain Chrissy Allen stepped up and converted his spot kick 1-2
Rangers were still having problems defending and minutes later visitorâs striker George Kabza got his second goal of the game 1-3.
In fact George Kabza should have had the match ball by half time as he missed a couple of glorious chances to score .
Rangers probably had their best ten minutes of the first half when the Smith brothers combined with Taylor setting up Elliot to score 2-3
Rangers had the momentum and Rangers midfielder Sam Evans picked out a shot that dipped under the Penydarren crossbar despite a desperate attempt to clear the ball from under the bar. A welcome equaliser 3-3
Rangers fragility in defence raised its head again as Penydarren regained the lead deep into added on time when Adam Lewis took aim and his shot somehow deceived the entire Rangers defence and the ball ended up in the back of the Rangers goal net 3-4
A pulsating first half giving both managers plenty to say about their defensive performances. Half time 3-4
The second half produced chances for both teams with Rangers missing some golden chances to get back in the game whilst Penydarren had a header that thumped against the Rangers crossbar.
Rangers made changes but just couldnât find the break they needed whilst Penydarrenâs non stop runner Adam Lewis capped a fine performance by scoring his second goal of the game and effectively winning this cup tie for his team 3-5
Rangers couldnât find a way back and it was the visitors who celebrated at the final whistle.
An entertaining game for the spectators but a frustrating one for the home team.
