Car Insurance expert Alex Kindred at Confused.com says: “The Ford Fiesta has been a popular vehicle in the UK since 1977. While some drivers may be disappointed to hear the latest rumours, discontinuation of familiar car models might become more common as brands prepare for electrification.”

“Electric vehicles will bring lots of long-term benefits, for both drivers and the environment. EV’s generally have cheaper running costs and come with great incentives, such as home charging points. However, the upfront costs of owning an EV can be costly, and with rising costs affecting everyone right now, it isn’t always a feasible option.

“With this in mind, stopping production of the Ford Fiesta may lead to increased costs for second-hands vehicles. And this stands for all other manufacturers who may be making the switch in time, too. This is something for drivers to consider when purchasing a used vehicle, especially when thinking about where costs can be saved in the current financial climate. Our guide on buying a used car can provide more information on this.”
