Shared Lives Award

South East Wales Shared Lives for Mental Health Crisis has won ‘Scheme Innovation Award’ at the Shared Lives Plus 2022 awards, the service offers an alternative to, or early discharge from, an inpatient hospital setting.

This is not for the first time the team at South East Wales have walked away with this prestigious award, previously being awarded for the Health Initiative project back in 2019. Since then, the service has gone from strength to strength, branching out to specialise in Dementia and Mental Health Crisis services.

It wasn’t just the Scheme that picked up an award, Clint Attard Shared Lives Carer was awarded the ‘Judges Highly Commended Carer of the Year 2022’ award, for his outstanding contribution to the Shared Lives Mental Health Crisis service.

The same week as the Shared Lives Plus awards, the team also attended the Ajuda Mental Health & Wellbeing Wales Awards where scheme was nominated for 6 awards.

The team nominated 3 carers for the “Inspiring Individual” award where all 3 carers: Pat Roberts, Maggs Evans and Clint Attard, made finalists out of 58 entries – with Clint Attard winning gold!

Judges said, “It is not only Clint’s experience of working in the care sector that gives him all the essential characteristic to be a stand out Carer, it is the life experience and warmth he brings as a host to those requiring his support during the most challenging part of their lives for some.”

The Scheme also made finalist in the “Best Mental Health Service during the Pandemic” award and won silver in the “Best Mental Health Support Product or Service” category.

Cllr Elaine Forehead, cabinet member for social care said “I am so pleased that everyone in the Shared Lives team is being recognised for their hard work in creating an award-winning mental health support service.

The Shared Lives Scheme is an invaluable resource that gives vulnerable people the help they need in a warm and dignified way and these awards show just how important it is.

The scheme would not be possible without the wonderful carers who share their time, home and communities with the people they support and I would like to thank every carer for their vital role in supporting those in need.”
