Wimbledon and Putney Common, Crossrail Place Roof Garden and Golders Hill are officially the top greenspaces in London for winter walks.

Winter is fast approaching and what better way to celebrate upcoming the festive season than by bundling up and heading out on a crisp walk.

To get into the festive spirit, Barratt London has delved into TripAdvisor reviews measuring winter phrases to reveal the best greenspaces for winter walks.

Which greenspaces are the best for winter walks?

The study investigated which parks and gardens were the best for winter walks by measuring the number of winter phrases in their TripAdvisor reviews.

Wimbledon and Putney Common are officially the best greenspaces for winter walks with 254 winter references. The Merton greenspace is home to 1,140 acres of countryside and various wildlife and is open to plenty of activities including cycling, horse riding, running, walks, golf, and sports. If events are more your thing, there is a bird and nature walk as well as carol events hosted at the greenspace.

Crossrail Place Roof Garden in Tower Hamlets takes the second spot as the ideal spot for wintertime walks with 190 references. This greenspace is slightly different from the others as it is an indoor roof garden filled with exotic plants and trees. Located in London’s financial hub, this indoor greenspace is the perfect oasis of calm and tranquillity. This is one for the foodies as the space boasts its own street food market.

Golders Hill Park in Camden is in third place with 151 winter references. This space is filled with greenery, secret gardens and is home to various wildlife and birds. The space is home to a small lake, free zoo, tennis courts and a children’s playground.

Which borough has the most wintery greenspaces?

The study also delved into which borough has the most hidden gem greenspaces for winter walks. The greenspaces were ranked based on the number and score of TripAdvisor reviews. 

Southwark is home to the most wintery greenspaces. Eight of the parks and gardens in the top 50 belong to the South London district. Some of these are The Victoria Tower Gardens, Sydenham Hill Wood and Cox’s Walk and One Tree Hill Local Nature Reserve.

Camden, Wandsworth, The City of London, and Tower Hamlets all share second place with three wintery greenspaces each.

Islington, Westminster, Lambeth, Brent, Merton, Greenwich, and Newham follow in third with two wintery greenspaces each.
