The song Yma o Hyd has become an anthem for the Welsh Football team and in a way a second anthem for Wales.

The Mentrau Iaith have worked with CânSing to create resources that are available for everybody to learn to sing Yma o Hyd including a BSL (British Sign Language) version with the Welsh language words. The resources are available for free on the CânSing website (Song :: Yma o Hyd – CânSing (cansing.org.uk)) where people can find the lyrics, audio tracks, a support sheet and interactive screens. Especially for Yma o Hyd there are videos to learn the song in BSL.

Daniela Schlick, Project Coordinator with Mentrau Iaith Cymru says:

“We’re so happy to support CânSing with the resources which offer the opportunity to learn the song in BSL. This ensures that the song is available to everybody and that everybody can be a part of the Wal Goch / The Red Wall.”

The song is about the challenges that Cymru and the Cymraeg (the Welsh Language) have been facing in the country’s history. It’s about hope too – we are “yma o hyd” (still here) after all! The Mentrau Iaith have commissioned Mewn Cymeriad / In Character to create a video about the history of Cymru and the Cymraeg – the challenges and the successes. The video is available on the Mentrau Iaith’s YouTube channel (Mentrau Iaith – YouTube) in Welsh and English, both with and without subtitles.

“Mewn Cymeriad has a broad experience and the skills to introduce history and Welsh figures of history in a very special way which are fun for both children and adults to watch. The video is a valuable resource to learn about Welsh history and we are proud to be able to share the video with everybody. It’s such a pleasure to watch the wonderful Llion Williams performing in the video.” explains Daniela Schlick.

The Mentrau Iaith all over Wales are offering a variety of exciting activities to celebrate the Welsh Football Team and their success taking part in the Football World Cup this year. The Mentrau Iaith are one of the key partners in the Welsh Government’s World Cup Partnership.
