Llanelli-based shopping centre, Parc Trostre was awarded a Green Apple Environment Award at the Houses of Parliament on November 21st 2022 for the second year in a row.
The award represents an annual international campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practices worldwide. Over 500 other nominations were made, placing Parc Trostre as a global leader in environmental success.
In 2021, the centre won the Green Ambassador Award for encouraging wildlife through nature and their strategic planning of bee and butterfly plants. This year, the accolade returns after implementing a variety of additional environmental facilities into the centre. This includes adding a bike shelter to encourage more people to cycle to the centre, and installing a rainwater capturing unit which potentially reduces water use by 50%.
As well as the award, Parc Trostre will also be invited to accept Green World Ambassador status and have their winning paper published in ‘The Green Book’, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practices. This accolade places the local shopping centre at the forefront of global companies, allowing others worldwide to follow their lead and learn from their achievement. A separate award ceremony will be held for the ambassadorship in the spring of 2023.
Parc Trostre will also be invited to represent the United Kingdom in the Green World Environment Awards which are held in a different country every year. This year the event is being held in the USA with travel emissions from each entrant offset by a collaboration between Green Earth Appeal and the United Nations Tree Planting Scheme.
100 trees will also be planted in Parc Trostre’s name in recognition of being awarded a Green World Ambassador.
The Centre Manager at Parc Trostre said, “The management & team at Parc Trostre are thrilled to receive our 2nd Green Apple for our work in encouraging wildlife including Bees through additional strategic planting throughout the park. Customers and tenants have also benefited from these areas of added interest and colour.”
