As the global gaming market is becoming increasingly competitive due to the number of emerging development companies. This includes Wales where the community itself is expanding with the country looking to build its foundations to become a significant player in the global market in the coming years. Which would be a great opportunity for the country to join a multi-billion dollar industry.

This would greatly benefit the country’s inhabitants as well since they would get access to a plethora of first-hand games. Probably the most popular department of gaming would be online casinos. Whose in-person counterparts already consist as one of the most popular hobbies in Wales. The integration of the global gaming market in Wales could mean that many new online casinos for beginners would become available to Welsh citizens.

Furthermore, people could also enjoy the expansion of games and esports within the country which are both huge parts of the industry. Esports especially since they are a quickly rising medium that spans hundreds of games. If Wales would pick up one of the bigger games in the space and host tournaments it would prove to be a great source of revenue for the country. All while also improving the industry and granting welsh players a better chance to shine and become professional gamers.

Wales’ current outlook on Gaming

Currently, the capital of Wales, Cardiff, is definitely falling behind some of the UK’s other big cities in regard to the number of game developers. The city, which is the eleventh largest city in the UK has 30 companies within the gaming industry, which is 15 less than Bristol.  Although there are 65 studios throughout the entirety of Wales, proving that establishments can work within the wider gaming market even outside of big cities. As Wales slowly starts to embrace the industry we are sure to see many more studios and companies pop up all around the country.

One of the most popular local developers is Wales Interactive, formed in 2011 and based in Pencoed. This company has seen and played a vital role in raising the profile of Welsh game developers. Its audience has reached all parts of the world resulting in its competing with some of the biggest developers in the world such as Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, and even Rockstar. Even with this global platform, the company has stayed within its Wels roots in order to attract a global audience through titles inspired by local myths.

The future of Gaming in Wales

As developers within Wales have begun to find success in the gaming industry on traditional platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo consoles, and many more, they have also ventured into online casinos. A relatively new space that has ample opportunity for developers to express their technical and artistic skills. This is especially useful when designing slot games at online casinos. Digitizing these classic casino games has opened up whole new sectors within the Gaming industry in Wales. Going forward it is highly likely that we will see more companies opened with the aim of prioritizing the online gambling industry.

Furthermore, the development of video games that feature welsh traditions and folklore will not only benefit the gaming industry but also have an effect on tourism and the reputation of Wales. The country can easily become a global player in video game development, and the signs of this are slowly showing as the government embraces the industry. Granting aspiring developers opportunities to open their own studios locally as well as nurturing them into success. Since the education, infrastructure, and systems are in place it is only a matter of time before the industry will explode within Wales.
