According to the NHS, over 2 million people suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder) in the UK, with the winter months reducing our exposure to sunlight. While hunting down the UK’s most colourful street won’t cure your SAD, it will encourage you to get outside, soak up a little more vitamin D and bring a touch of colour to your day.

But which street is the most colourful? To find out, Dulux analysed images of 20 of the UK’s most famously colourful streets and ran them through a colour identifier tool to determine which streets displayed the highest number of different shades.

The Top 10 Most Colourful Streets in the UK

The study reveals that Bristol is home to the most colourful street in the UK, Cliftonwood Terrace, located in the oh-so-trendy neighbourhood of Cliftonwood. With its display of 14 colours – why not take a wander down the street after visiting Bristol’s enchanting Christmas market? It’s certain to get you feeling cosy inside.

Hot on its tails is Neal’s Yard in London, boasting a colourful 12 hues in the courtyard. Neal’s Yard is another stunner, especially when lit up for Christmas so it’s definitely one to detour down during your Christmas shopping this year. Take a look at the pink, yellow and orange lights, only adding more wonder to the already colourful courtyard.

The research wasn’t limited to England, either. Wales has two entries in the top 10 with Portmeirion and Tenby Harbour both hosting an array of colour. In fact, legend has it that sailors used to paint their homes to navigate their way home in the fog, previously using berries and fruit to paint over the popular limestone surfaces.

Scotland has three entries in the UK’s top 10 with Victoria Street in Edinburgh showcasing 10 colours. This is closely followed by the home of Balamory, Main Street on the Isle of Mull which has nine. Rounding off our top 10 is Quay Street from the Isle of Skye with just six colours. This remote fishing town is a pool of inspiration with indigoes, mint greens and blues all complementing the quaint waterfront.
