News today reveals that flooding is set to become more common this winter and early next year. Home insurance expert at Confused.com, Jessica Willock, comments:
“Damage to homes and gardens due to flooding is continuing to be a great risk, as climate change is causing more extreme weather conditions. News reveals that 3 in 4 people don’t understand flood risks in their area. With this comes the worry that people aren’t prepared for potential damage to their home.
“Our research reveals that 12% of UK homeowners and renters have made a claim on their home insurance because of a flooding-related incident. There are, however, precautions you can take to minimise any damage caused by flooding, such as clearing gutters, inspecting roof tiles and pruning trees.
“It’s important to always check your home insurance policy to ensure you have appropriate cover for flooding. If you live in a high risk area, a separate policy for flood insurance could be beneficial for additional protection, should your property be damaged.
