Lakeland analysed over 2,000 playlists on Spotify, containing almost 250,000 different tracks, to reveal the most popular songs (and artists) being listened to in kitchens around the world.
‘A Sunday Kind of Love’ by Etta James claimed the top spot as the most popular song to listen to while cooking, featuring in 168 different kitchen playlists. Elton John’s ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’ came in second place with 122 appearances, followed by Grover Washingon Jr and Bill Withers’ ‘Just the Two of Us’, which showed up 119 times.
Lakeland’s research also revealed the most popular artists to listen to while cooking, with Elton John, Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder sharing the top spot, each having 5 different songs in the top 100 most popular tracks. ABBA and Harry Styles followed close behind, both with 4 tracks in the top 100.
People are turning to the past when it comes to their cooking playlists, with 28% of the top 100 songs coming from the 1960s and 27% from the 1970s – only 4% came from this decade! And as for genres, jazz and pop were the most popular, making up 24% and 19% of the top 100.
