News today reveals yellow weather warnings of heavy rainfall as the cold snap comes to an end. Many in the UK have been urged to be aware of potential flooding. Home insurance expert at Confused.com, Jessica Willock, comments:
“While the end of the cold snap is welcomed, the yellow weather warnings for rain could cause flooding problems for many homes. Our research found that almost 3 in 10 (29%) Brits actively avoid buying or renting a house which is under a flood risk. But as climate change continues, the risk of flooding is becoming harder to avoid.
“But there are some ways you can prepare ahead of flooding to try and minimise any damage caused. In the event of a flood warning, it’s a good idea to move valuable items onto high shelves as well as any important documents. And when it comes to protecting your home, we also recommend clearing your gutters and inspecting roof tiles.
“You might already have cover for flood damage in your buildings and contents insurance, but the level of cover could vary. Always check the level of cover before committing to buy. If you need more protection, you might be able to add to an existing policy or take it out separately.”
