News continues to issue flooding alerts bringing disruption across England and Wales. Home insurance expert at Confused.com, Jessica Willock comments:
“Possible flooding across the country is likely to cause damage to homes and gardens. Our research reveals that more than 1 in 10 (12%) UK homeowners have had to claim on their home insurance in the past for flooding-related incidents. And with an increase in heavy rainfall, many more might be facing this issue.
“With grounds already saturated from previous rain, the risk of flooding is growing across more areas. If your home is damaged by the extreme weather, here are steps you should take before making a claim:
· Get in touch with your insurer. They can advise on what your policy covers and the next steps
· Make a thorough inspection of the house, taking photos and recording the date and time
· Keep any damaged items so they can assess the extent of damage
“Where possible, it’s a good idea to keep a record of any damage you find within your home to solidify your claim. If you’re in a high-risk flood area, our guide to affordable flood cover will provide you with everything you need to know.”
