Campaigner available to comment on the ban on single-use plastics just announced:
City to Sea, the organisation behind the campaign to ban these polluting plastic items, have responded to the publication of the consultation response for the ban on some of the most polluting single-use plastics and confirmation that the ban will come in from October 2023.
Steve Hynd, Policy Manager at City to Sea said,
“We finally now have confirmation that this ban that we’ve spent years campaigning for will come into force in October 2023. This is over 2 years after the rest of the European Union implemented a similar ban. Even if it is playing catch-up, it is also a step in the right direction. These are some of the most polluting single-use plastic items most commonly found in our rivers, oceans, and on our beaches.”
He continued, “But for England to be true “global leaders” in tackling plastic pollution like this government claims to be, we need them to go much further. We need to see an overarching strategy for tackling plastic pollution that commits to a legally binding reduction of single-use plastics.”
