Dear Editor,
In a Press release on January 24th , Wales Climate Change Minister, Julie James who wants 100 per cent of Welsh electricity from renewables by 2035 stated :-
“Wales is already making good progress on previous targets set in 2017 and already generates 55 per cent of our electricity from renewables.”
How on earth can this be remotely true, when ,in a recent calculation, Wales was using only 1678MW on average, whilst Pembroke CCGT gas-fired power station, in the extreme westerly point of Wales, generates up to 2200MW on its own ?
That is more than 100 per cent of Welsh usage from a non-renewable source!!
Can she please substantiate her statement by elaborating where all the renewable Welsh electricity is generated and where the Pembroke gas-generated electricity is used?
Surely she is not manipulating geographical fact and engaging in old-fashioned semantics in regarding South Pembrokeshire as “Little England beyond Wales”, thereby excluding it??
Yours faithfully,
L J Jenkins,
