Please ask your MP to do 2 simple things, to back drivers

A big day for drivers and lessening the cost-of-living crisis approaches on Wednesday March 15th.

Jeremy Hunt’s ‘will he or won’t he’ decisive Budget will dictate yet again, what we pay for petrol and diesel at the pumps. Both the Prime Minister and the Chancellor have still not quashed the OBR’s planned forecast post Autumn Statement announcement, of a 14.4p rise per litre.

If introduced this mind-blowingly ignorant policy will increase inflation by 2.3%, reduce GDP by 1% and costs thousands of jobs. And add over £8 to filling up an average family car.

And that is why we need you to ask your own MP to ensure it does not happen and preferably for them to support a real cut in Fuel Duty as the popular alternative.

A reduction is unlikely, of course because this Government is adverse to any tax cutting to make the economy grow. A planned clueless Corporation Tax rise from 19% to 25% for example, will destroy small businesses. Yet this Conservative regime is hell bent on continuing to bring even more financial woes onto all of us. It seems they remain stupefied with a short term cash grabbing fiscal approach, instead of wanting to put more money back into our pockets to generate real economic momentum.

Rest assured though, there are hundreds of back bench MPs on both sides of the House of Commons who want this regressive vehicle fuel tax frozen at its current level. With many more, going further, wanting it reduced.

So, please go to https://fairfueluk.eaction.org.uk/invitation-to-MPs and follow the easy instructions to ask your MP to do 2 things in the lead up to the Budget. Actions that will send a your clear and influential message to the Treasury, the Chancellor and the Prime Minister.

Please ask your MP to:

  1. ….Attend a FairFuelUK APPG reception for 10 minutes to see why raising Fuel Duty will be both economic and political suicide
  2. ….Help deliver a ‘DON’T HIKE’ Fuel Duty petition of 121,000 signatures to No 10 and No 11 Downing Street

If your MP choses to do neither of these asks, or explain why they can’t participate, will clearly demonstrate their anti-driver position. It would show they are not fit to be elected ever again.

Thanks again for your support and influence in these issues which is more than important than ever before. It is the reason why Fuel Duty has not been increased for 12 years.

So PLEASE ask your MP to help drivers and ignore the hundreds of well financed special advisors in Westminster, along with news outlets like the BBC, shout that motorists are destroying the planet. Deep down most MPs know cheaper filling up costs makes economic and business sense and are the route to a better environment.

Here is that link again to make your MP help the economy by helping reduce costs for UK’s 37m drivers.
