Sunday, March 19th marks Mother’s Day in the UK, with Mum’s across the country set to wake up to breakfast in bed and a gift or two.
With millions of Brits already thinking about how they will spoil their mums this year, Google searches for ‘Mother’s Day’ and ‘Mother’s Day Presents’ have increase by +567% and over +5000% respectively in the past 30 days.
To support your gifting needs, retailer IWOOT has conducted some research on the most popular presents bought on their site, and what generation is buying them! The five most popular presents were found to be mugs, flower seeds, umbrellas, entrance mats and LEGO flower bouquets.
Mugs seem to be a consistently popular choice, with Google Trend data over the past five years showing search peaks around March (Mother’s Day) and December (Christmas), as these quirky yet practical gifts are always a hit.
When exploring what generation are the most generous gift-givers, IWOOT found that Millennials (25 – 34) spend an average of £33.10 per order. Gen Xers (35 – 44) came out on top with an average spend of £35.79, while Gen Zers (18 – 24) spent the least with an average order value of £26.05 – which could mean they have less disposable income than their older peers.
