IRONMAN and The University of Wales Trinity Saint David are excited to announce their partnership with IRONMAN Wales taking place at Tenby on Sunday, 3 September 2023.
Every year, Tenby comes alive when thousands of athletes descend on the village to take on the Dragon in an iconic event. Cheered on by streets lined with locals and supporters, the atmosphere is rarely beaten anywhere in the world. The race starts on the iconic North Beach where crowds gather along the âzig zagâ stairs to cheer athletes on.
“I am thrilled that the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) has re-committed to providing invaluable support to both IRONKIDS Wales and the IRONMAN Wales Volunteers programme. This partnership will enable us to continue delivering sporting opportunities for young people in Wales via our IRONKIDS event. Additionally, the IRONMAN Wales Volunteers programme enables us to fully engage with local community groups and sports clubs in order to provide exciting volunteering and fundraising opportunities. Our partnership with UWTSD has been tremendously beneficial in recent years and I look forward to strengthening our bonds still further in 2023 and beyond.â says Rebecca Sutherland, IRONMAN Wales Race Director.
Dean of the Institute of Management and Health at UWTSD, Professor Wendy Dearing, said: âThe University is delighted to continue its collaboration with IRONMAN Wales, one of the worldâs most prestigious triathlon brands, by sponsoring IRONKIDS Wales. The University recruits a large number of students from Pembrokeshire and this partnership will enable us to work with IRONMAN Wales to provide a range of educational opportunities in communities across the county. The partnership with IRONMAN Wales aligns well with the expertise and disciplines offered on the campus in relation to the Wales Academy of Health and Physical Literacy, the Creative Industries as well as Sustainability within rural contexts. The University is an integral part of its local community collaborating with partners to make a positive contribution to the region and its citizens in a variety of ways.â
The partnership opens the door for students to volunteer at IRONMAN Wales and gives a range of educational opportunities in the sector to local residents and communities.
The course is challenging with an ocean swim and hilly bike and run legs which will see athletes battle it out over a 3.8km (2.4 mile) swim, 180.2km (112 mile) bike and 42.2km (26.2 mile) run. You can still secure your place at https://www.ironman.com/im-wales-register whilst tickets last.
