2050: Robots will be running our offices

Futurists have revealed the shocking changes our offices will go under by 2050, including remote controlled robots!

Along with fingerprint accessed fridges, a holographic receptionist and napping beds, this mock-up shows exactly how offices could look in the next 30 years.

Experts have revealed what our offices will look like in 30 years

Futurists and tech experts have predicted what our offices will look like in 30 years – and it features robots, tea drones, beds, fingerprint fridges and a holographic receptionist.  

Research by office furniture suppliers, Furniture At Work, shows what experts think we’ll see in offices by 2050.  

1.    Biofeedback wristbands and living walls  

Employees could be given biofeedback wristbands that monitor their health and wellbeing. These bands use data to provide feedback and recommendations for improving productivity and performance.  

Connor Harbision, Founder of Urban Atlas Farms, says businesses will soon be growing their own food: 

Businesses will use wall space for growing their own plants and fresh food. These living walls will make the office more attractive, eco-friendly, and improve mental health. 

2.    Napping beds and babysitters 

Hila Harary from Tectonic Shift explains how workplace naps could be beneficial: 

“Napping beds could be introduced to offices to help employees cope with stress and a lack of sleep. These beds would be designed for either sitting or napping, offering a place to quietly recharge and refresh throughout the working day.” 

People will be able to bring babies and young children into future offices. Businesses will employ babysitters to support parents with childcare.  

Virtual reality will be used in meditation rooms. VR headsets can be used to simulate relaxing environments where employees can de-stress and disconnect.  

3.    Tea drones and biometric fridges 

The popular office brew round could well be replaced by drones that will take orders and deliver hot drinks directly to workers’ desks. This will reduce the need for breaks and improve productivity around the office.  

Lunches going missing will soon be a thing of the past, thanks to biometric fridges. These high-tech kitchen appliances will recognise employees’ handprints and rotate shelves to bring their food to the front of the fridge.  

4.    Virtual and augmented reality 

Ivan Begunov, Founder of Lucky Loki AI, believes VR will revolutionise training: 

“We will see training and meetings transformed by advancements in virtual reality. This technology can be used to create 3D environments for simulating training exercises without real-life risks. Remote employees will also have VR headsets to dial into meetings or training sessions for a more immersive experience.” 

Augmented reality will make it easier for employees to work on the go. AR glasses will make it possible for touchable screens to appear in the air in front of workers. It would also allow them to dial into meetings as if they were in the room with their colleagues.  

5.    Robots and holographic receptionists 

Richard Nolan, CPO at Epsonow expects offices to be operated by robots: 

“Many of the mundane tasks around the office will soon be carried out by robots. These robots will be controlled by people working from home, allowing them to be physically present in the office without the lengthy commute.” 

A holographic receptionist will greet workers when they arrive at the office. This AI-operated virtual assistant will speak any language in the world and answer any questions employees have about their working week. Early developments of this are already popping up in cities around the world, including London and Tokyo.  

A touchless entrance system for both hygiene and ease of use will feature in future offices. This technology will scan employees’ faces to allow access to the office and keep a log of who is inside the building for health and safety.
