Chartist Garden visit

Cllr Shayne Cook, Cabinet Member for Housing was joined by Leader of Council, Cllr Sean Morgan and local ward Councillors, Colin Gordon, Mike Adams, Pat Cook and other members of Caerphilly County Borough Council in touring the Chartist Garden Village development in Pontllanfraith, with leading developer Lovell and its partner Pobl Group.

Chartist Garden Village is a design and build scheme being delivered by Lovell on the former council office site, consisting of 123 properties, including 40 one, two, three and four-bedroom homes for open market sale, 40 affordable shared ownership homes and 43 affordable homes for rent.

The development has been designed around the principles of a Garden Village, which combines traditional design with contemporary craftmanship. Garden Villages create well-designed, vibrant and healthy places to live, with affordable housing and green open spaces.

On Monday 20th March, Councillors and staff from Caerphilly Council met with Lovell and Pobl at Chartist Garden Village, where they were given a tour of the site and the recently-launched marketing suite and four-bedroom Humberstone style showhome.

The first homes are expected to be ready this summer and potential buyers can register their interest now.

Construction work is expected to be completed in summer 2024. In total, the project is providing more than six apprenticeship placements and 128 weeks of work experience for local people.

Cllr Shayne Cook, Cabinet Member for Housing, said “This exciting development will provide much needed high quality homes, as well as delivering wider benefits for local communities through the strong partnership developed between the Council, Pobl and Lovell.”

Leader of Caerphilly Council, Cllr Sean Morgan, added “Chartist Garden Village is a flagship development which demonstrates what can be delivered through partnership working.  It’s fantastic to see the site developing and I’d like to thank Lovell and Pobl for inviting us along today.”

James Duffett, regional managing director at Lovell, said: “We are very proud of our work in transforming this former brownfield site into a thriving Garden Village, where residents will benefit from enhanced space and surrounding landscapes of street trees, grass verges, a pond and public open green spaces.

“It was great to be able to show Caerphilly County Borough Council the hard work that we’ve put into the site so far. Once completed, Chartist Garden Village will be a fantastic place for local people to call home. This development is a prime example of how partnership working can benefit a community, and we’re committed to maintaining a high standard of work right until the site is completed.”

Rhys Parry, Director of Development – East at Pobl Group, said “It was wonderful to welcome the Council representatives to Chartist Garden Village and show them the progress that has been made on site so far. We’re proud to be collaborating with Lovell on this project to deliver high quality, affordable homes in places where people want to live. We are very grateful for the ongoing support of Caerphilly County Borough Council, without whom developments such as this would not be possible.”
