New data has revealed that Cardiff is the ‘April showers hotspot’ of Wales, expected to have the highest millimetres of rainfall in 2023.
A common weather lore in the UK is that April tends to be a showery month, and this appears to have some truth to it. During April, the jet stream starts to move northwards, which can bring the first signs of warmth but can also make our weather more unsettled due to low pressure systems being driven towards the UK, and so we get rain, showers and strong wind (Source: MetOffice).
Comparison Experts at KingCasinoBonus.uk have predicted which areas of Wales, and the UK, are most likely to have April showers, by calculating the average rainfall in April between 1991 and 2020.
The data analysts have also named the area of the UK which is expected to have the highest number of damp days this April, which consists of rain or snow.
Where in Wales is predicted to receive the highest amount of rainfall this April?
Cardiff is expected to receive the highest level of rainfall in Wales this April, at 72 millimetres over the course of the month, followed by Llandrindod Wells at 72 millimetres and Swansea at 60 millimetres.
Cardiff lies near the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, stretching westward from Penarth and Barry. The coast consists of reefs, sandbanks and serrated cliffs, the latter of which will have formed due to heavy rainfall, so the high number of April showers predicted this year make sense!

Cardiff is predicted to have the third highest levels of rainfall in the UK this April.

Stornoway, which is located on the Isle of Lewis, is home to a sea port and harbour, whilst Castlederg lies on the River Derg which runs approximately 28 miles long, explaining why rainfall is expected to be high in both areas this April.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson at KingCasinoBonus.uk said:
“April is known to traditionally be a rainy time of the year for Brits so, with this in mind, we have predicted which areas of Wales we expect to receive the highest amount of rainfall, with Cardiff coming out on top.”
“We have also predicted which areas of the UK we expect to receive the highest amount of rainfall and the highest number of damp days, consisting of rain and snow. We concluded that Ambleside, in Cumbria, will receive the highest amount of rainfall in April, whilst Stornoway and Lerwick will receive the highest number of damp days.”
“We would recommend taking the weather into consideration when making any plans this April which would be most pleasant in dry conditions, such as camping in Cardiff or Llandrindod Wells. However, as long as you’re prepared with the right gear and waterproof clothing, the rain shouldn’t let you miss out on all the fun!”
