FRIDGE LOOKS TO PAST FOR NEW RECIPES

Kidwelly Community Fridge, a CETMA project, is rolling back the years to the age of rationing to research and try out recipes that are suitable for today’s families.

The World War 2 (WW2) Food rationing project, which is funded by HUBBUB and their Community Fridge Network sees Kidwelly Community Fridge volunteers research World War rationing recipes which can be used by PBP Foodbank in their food parcels.  

The aim is to create healthy and nutritious meals that can be used today to help combat food poverty during the cost of living crises and Laura Williams, the Project Officer said:

“The cost of living crisis has made food more expensive, which means that some of the items from the supermarket are not available because they’ve been sold out. Instead of reinventing recipes for today’s public, we can learn from WW2 when the British Government created recipes that could be made with the available food.”

Volunteers will identify, make and try out recipes which can be published as Recipe Cards that can be distributed at events. 

“Volunteers will be the first to try out the recipes and they’ll decide which ones we’ll use to distribute to the public as cards, and which the Foodbank can add to their food parcels in the form of ingredients.”

“Our Megan and the Food Squad Project will also be involved as we’ll also be encourage people to do their own ‘Dig for Victory’ and grow their own food.”
