There’s a new vegan festival on the summer horizon this year – and the first outdoor event of its kind to come to Pembrokeshire.
VegOut West on August 19 and 20 promises to be a smorgasbord of summer sounds, veritable vegan feasting as well as the chance to take part in crafts, pottery and even soothing therapies – to fully unwind and relax. Non-vegans welcome too.
It is a very affordable family camping event with weekend tickets for adults priced at just £40, £20 entry for 6–16-year-olds and no charge for under 6s.
The ticket price also includes yoga, workshops and a line-up of activities, putting it within the reach of those looking for cheaper options for the school holidays.
Comedian Joe Lycett stirred VegOut West’s organisers Joe Rowbottom and Carwyn Ratcliffe into action.
They attended his recent tour where he left a lasting impression, and you could say something to pin their festival hopes on.
On sale on Joe’s tour were badges featuring the inscription “sometimes if you want something to exist you have to make it yourself.” The badges, designed by Josie Long, have already made around £57,000 for the Arts Emergency charity which Josie co-founded.
VegOut West will similarly raise money for good causes with all monies made going to Greenpeace as well as supporting the local area through ‘LARC’ Llanteg and Amroth Renaturing Community – providing and enhancing local green spaces.
The event, which it is hoped will become an annual fixture in the vegan festival calendar, is located on an idyllic six-acre site in Llanteg and has family fun and the chance to hang out with like-minded vegans at its heart. There’s a vast array of music to chill out to including rock, pop, drum and bass, house and hip hop provided by DJs. It’s just a short distance from Amroth Beach – and minibuses will be on hand for those wanting to take a refreshing plunge in the sea.
They’ll be colour in every corner – first up the food – with vegan pizza being produced specifically for the event as well as bountiful burgers from Vegan Filth and vegan ice-cream. There’ll be a licenced bar and soft drinks.
Pottery making and painting are also on offer and why not try ‘dotting’ – the art of painting dots and making them into a pattern. The practice of using all kinds of soothing sounds to help emotional wellbeing is also on offer. (add name of organisation).
There’s also yoga, a nerf gun battleground area and, to wind down, a selection of board games to enjoy.
