Councillor Maldwyn Lewis Chairman of Ceredigion County Council

Councillor Maldwyn Lewis has been elected as Chairman of Ceredigion County Council for 2023-2024 during an Annual General Meeting held on Friday 19 May 2023.

This brings Councillor Ifan Davies’ time as Chairman for 2022-2023 to an end, where he has steered the Council through a very significant period for his area and the county after the National Eisteddfod was held in Ceredigion in August 2022, just outside Tregaron.

The new Chairman, Councillor Maldwyn Lewis, was elected to Troed-yr-Aur Ward in 2012 and 2019, and following boundary reorganisation, he was elected to North Llandysul and Troed-yr-Aur Ward in 2022. He is originally from the village of Penrhiw-pâl, Rhydlewis, where he continues to live and work with his family business, and he is a member Troed-yr-Aur Community Council.

Councillor Maldwyn Lewis said: “It’s a privilege to be elected as Chairman of Ceredigion County Council for 2023-2024, and I look forward to steering the Council meetings and represent the county at events and activities during the forthcoming year. I consider it an honour to be elected to represent my area and the county, and I’m very proud to be able to live and work in such a wonderful part of Ceredigion.”

It was also confirmed that Councillor Keith Evans, South Llandysul representative, would be the Vice Chairman.

Councillor Bryan Davies, Leader of Ceredigion County Council, added: ”I would like to congratulate Councillor Maldwyn Lewis on being elected as Chairman of the Council; Councillor Keith Evans on being elected as Vice Chairman; and also extend my sincere thanks to Councillor Ifan Davies for his tireless work as the previous Chairman.”

Questions for the Former Chairman

Councillor Ifan Davies, Tregaron and Ystrad-Fflur ward, was the Chairman of Ceredigion County Council for 2022-2023. Here is a look back at his year.

  • What was it like to be the Chairman of Ceredigion County Council during the last year?

It was a truly unique and memorable experience and an honour to represent this fantastic county.

  • What was the best thing about your experience?

It has definitely been the pride of holding the National Eisteddfod in Tregaron and the event being so successful considering it was the first Eisteddfod to be held after the pandemic, as well as the huge success of Pentref Ceredigion on the Maes. It was a pleasure to have the honour of visiting the residents of the county as they celebrated their 100th birthday, and also to meet so many people from an array of different field and see the clear talent we have in the county.

  • What is your message to the new Chairman?

Enjoy the fantastic experience ahead of you.
