Eisteddfod yr Urdd 2023 Sir Gâr – a week to remember!

Diolch, to everyone that attended and supported the Urdd Eisteddfod in Llandovery last week in what was a wonderful week for Carmarthenshire.

Sunshine bathed the town of Llandovery for the whole week, as Carmarthenshire welcomed children, young people, families and friends from all over the country to celebrate one of Wales’s most prestigious festivals.

It’s true to say that Carmarthenshire’s children, young people and schools were there in force!

6,074 children and young people in Carmarthenshire are members of the Urdd, that’s 15% of the entire membership of Wales.

There are 1,480 more members in Carmarthenshire than in any other county in Wales.

67 schools from across Carmarthenshire registered to compete in stage competitions this year.

90% of Carmarthenshire schools have competed in this year’s Eisteddfod and 100% of the county’s secondary schools have competed.

46 Carmarthenshire schools successfully reached the stage at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Llandovery.

There were 5,603 registrations for stage competitions in Carmarthenshire this year.

1,750 children were competing in the Eisteddfod preliminary rounds in Carmarthenshire this year.

Councillor Darren Price, Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council, said: “I’m so proud of the efforts of the county to host such a fantastic Urdd Eisteddfod in Carmarthenshire.

“I am grateful to the efforts of all who have worked tirelessly to make this year’s festival such a successful event and to showcase Llandovery and our county to the whole of Wales and beyond.

“My biggest thanks goes to the children, young people, parents, teachers and support staff of Carmarthenshire that have fully embraced the opportunity to participate in the Urdd Eisteddfod. Carmarthenshire is very proud of you, diolch.”
