Innovation Strategy launched for Carmarthenshire

The Innovation Strategy for Carmarthenshire has been launched by partners, at Parc y Scarlets.

Cllr. Darren Price, Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council, welcomed the Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Climate Change, Lee Waters MS; UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Minister James Davies, partners and stakeholders to the event.

The commissioned report, Exploring the innovation prospects for Carmarthenshire, has been undertaken by Cardiff University’s Centre for Innovation Policy Research with the aim to identify proposals to support the recovery and restructuring of Carmarthenshire’s economy through innovation.

The focus of the strategy lies in the areas of Foundational Economy; Health and Wellbeing; Digital Innovation and a Circular Economy.

The launch event allowed an opportunity for partners to hear about the vision for Carmarthenshire and how their support can ensure that the vision becomes a reality.

Speaking at the event, Cllr. Gareth John, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism said: said: “I would like to thank Cardiff University for the detailed and visionary Innovation Strategy. We are no strangers to innovation here in Carmarthenshire and it is good to see this reflected in the report.

“There is much to be optimistic about the future of Carmarthenshire. Innovative initiatives such as our Economic Recovery and Delivery Plan, our Health and Innovation Plan – which involves the development of the Pentre Awel facility, and improving our digital and 5G infrastructure, through Swansea Bay City Deal projects, are only a few things that we will be pursuing with our partners over the coming years.”
